First
Class Mail
Definition
First
Class Mail includes those letters and letter
packages (i.e., "letter mail") which
satisfy the following basic criteria:
Mail closed or otherwise sealed against postal
inspection;
Handwritten or typewritten communications having
the character of current and personal correspondence;
Matter having the character of actual and personal
correspondence; and,
Bills & statements of account.
Unless
prohibited by the destination country, merchandise
and printed matter conforming to the applicable
weight and size limits also may be mailed at
letter rates. Letter mail must be enclosed in
an envelope or wrapper.
Any
matter eligible for mailing may, at the option
of the mailer, be mailed as First-Class Mail.
Description
of Service
Use
First-Class Mail for sending letters, postcards,
postal cards, greeting cards, personal notes,
checks, and money orders.
Additional
services such as certificates of mailing, registered,
and restricted delivery can be purchased for
First-Class Mail. Insurance can also be purchased.
However, insured articles mailed at the First-Class
rate must contain only merchandise or material
not required to be sent as First-Class Mail.
All
First-Class Mail receives prompt handling and
transportation. First-Class Mail is generally
delivered within 2 days to locally designated
addresses. Delivery by the third day can be
expected for remaining outlying areas.

Air Lift
Also known as Surface. This is a cheaper means
of mailing, by virtue of its distribution by
convenience only.

Air Letter
Definition
An
air letter must be written on a special, self
stamped air-letter form.
Description
of Service
The
air-letter form weighs less than one-tenth of
an ounce, and are available at all Post Offices.
Enclosures are not permitted.

Definition
Express
Mail International Services (EMS) is a reliable
high-speed service for mailing urgent items
to the UK,USA,Canada and the Caribbean.
Important
letters, documents, and merchandise may be sent
by Express Mail. Incoming EMS is delivered by
special messenger within a 24 hour period in
Kingston and St. Andrew (the Coporate Area)
and 48 hours for rural areas.
The
maximum weight limit for EMS shipments varies
by country. Contact your local post office for
more information.

The maximum weight for Zip
Mail©
is 50 pounds, and the maximum size is 108 inches
in length and girth combined. Priority Mail
should be well identified.

Faxmail
Definition
The
Post Office offers a quick and convenient Faxmail
service to anyone who needs to send or receive
an urgent letter or document.
Description
of Service
Faxmail
offers instant faxing facilities at more than
20 participating post offices nationwide.
A
fax can be sent from:
A participating post office to a private fax
machine
A participating post office to another participating
post office with different delivery options.
This option is available in the domestic service
only and the post office cover page must be
used (at no extra cost).
The
recipient collects the fax from the post office.
(The sender must inform the recipient of the
fax.)
Delivery
Options
A private fax machine to a participating post
office. Faxes can only be collected at the post
office. A charge per page is payable by the
addressee. (The sender must inform the recipient
of the fax.)
Guidelines
Documents may not be bigger than letter size
(8 ½" x 11").
For
best readability, your document should be in
black ink on a white background.
Pages must not be bound or stapled together.
Remember to number each page.
The contents of Faxmail messages may not be
offensive or indecent.

Domestic
Bulk Mail
Definition
The
domestic bulk posting services is available
to businesses that post large numbers of domestic
letters. This service offers discounts if letters
are prepared according to certain sorting, addressing
and other relevant posting criteria.

Description
of Service
The
domestic bulk posting service applies only to
letters posted in Jamaica and intended for delivery
in Jamaica. Postal articles exceeding 353 x
250 mm in size, thicker than 30 mm and weighing
more than 1 kg are not regarded as letters.
Postage
discounts are available for domestic bulk mailers
only for postings that meet the following rebate
criteria

CRITERIA
A minimum of 30,000 articles per posting
The articles must be paid for at the post office
counter or must be franked.
Bulk mail postings may only be handed in at
designated post offices.
Bulk mail postings must be handed in at the
same time and place.
A grading certificate is essential for claiming
presorted rebates.
Mail must be posted on the date appearing in
the date stamp impression on the envelope of
franked mail.
All articles in a consignment must originate
from the same sander, must be identical in shape,
size and mass category and the nature of the
contents should be the same.
BENEFITS
It is a cost-effective way of sending large
quantities.
By meeting the specified requirements, clients
qualify for discounts on large consignments
of letters.
When posting large quantities, use the domestic
bulk mail service.

Discounts of up to 20% off the basic letter
rate are available to mailers.
Parcel
Post
Definition
Any
postal item larger than 250 x 353 mm and/or

1 kg will be considered a parcel.

Post
Office Boxes
Definition
Customers
of the post office, may rent a private, locked
mail box for the receipt of mail during the
hours when the lobby of a postal facility is
open.
Description
of Service
Mail
box holders may ask the Postal Service to deliver
to their post office box all mail properly addressed
to the holder. If the post office box is located
at the post office indicated on the piece, it
will be transferred without additional charge,
under existing regulations.

Registered
Mail
Definition
Registered
mail is a service that provides added protection
to mail and provides limited indemnity in case
of loss or damage.
Description
of Service
Registered
mail service provides compensation depending
upon the actual value at the time of mailing,
except that insurance is not available for articles
of no value.
There
is no limit on the value of articles sent as
registered mail.
The
following services are provided as part of registered
mail service at no additional cost to the mailer:
a.
A receipt;
b. A record of delivery, retained by
the Postal Service for a specified period of
time;
c. When registered mail is undeliverable-as-addressed
and cannot be forwarded, a notice of non-delivery
is provided.
Registered
mail must be deposited in a manner specified
by the Postal Service & is provided maximum
security. Registered mail is forwarded and returned
without additional charge.

The
fees for registered mail are indicated in the
Fee Schedule.
Jamaican Postal Orders
Definition
Money
order service is a service that provides the
customer with an instrument for payment of a
specified sum of money.
Description
of Service
The
maximum value for which a domestic postal money
order may be purchased is. Other restrictions
on the number or dollar value of postal money
order sales, or both, may be imposed by law
or under regulations prescribed by the Postal
Service.
A
receipt of purchase is provided.
Inquiries
or claims may be filed by the purchaser, payee,
or endorsee.
