Appointed Postmaster
General
The Chairman of the Board of the Postal Corporation of
Jamaica, Mr Lance Hylton, is pleased to announce the appointment
by the Public Service Commission of Mr. Michael Gentles
as Postmaster General of Jamaica, with effect from August
1, 2006. Mr. Gentles will also serve as Chief Executive
Officer of The Postal Corporation of Jamaica.
In making the announcement Mr Hylton identifies Gentles'
impeccable academic credentials, on-the-job training, proven
management skills, public sector experience and private
sector vision as an ideal blend of characteristics that
make him eminently suitable for the challenging task of
consolidating and advancing the gains of the Post Office
while guiding it towards its goal of modernisation and
viability.
The new PMG/CEO has played a major role in enhancing the
postal service's corporate image in various capacities:
firstly as a Deputy Postmaster General with portfolio responsibility
for Operations and since October 2005 as Acting Postmaster
General/CEO.
During his tenure as Deputy PMG, Operations, he created
the framework for the postal service's most outstanding
and sustained mail delivery performance in Jamaica's history.
The resulting heightened public and business confidence
in the Post Office has charted a course for continuous
revenue growth.
As Acting PMG/CEO Mr. Gentles has represented his country
in several overseas fora with such distinction that he
was recently recognised by his colleagues across the region
by being unanimously elected as the General Secretary of
the Caribbean Postal Union (CPU).
Mr.
Gentles is a graduate of Knox College, and holds a BSc
degree (economics and management studies) from the University
of the West Indies (Mona) and an MBA from Barry University
in the United States.
